Where the Lines Crossed | True North

My art tells stories of hope, transformation, and the moments that shape us. Each piece is created to inspire reflection, healing, and connection.
True North
The first line appeared before I knew what I was searching for.
It was a thin stroke of blue, almost accidental, stretching across the canvas like a breath held too long. I followed it with my eyes, then my hand, and suddenly there were more—lines of rust and gold, soft whites that felt like silence, deep reds that pulsed like memory. They didn’t stay in their lanes. They crossed, blurred, argued, and then—strangely—made peace.
Color lines have a way of telling the truth without asking permission.
At first, I tried to control them. Keep them straight. Keep them safe. I chose colors I’d used before, shapes I already understood. But the lines resisted. They bent when I wanted them rigid. They darkened where I wanted light. One bold streak cut through everything I had planned, and instead of ruining the design, it woke it up.
That’s when I realized the canvas wasn’t the only thing changing.
Each line became a reflection—of choices I’d made, paths I avoided, parts of myself I’d softened or hidden to fit into someone else’s frame. The jagged lines felt like my courage returning. The layered colors looked like forgiveness stacked gently over old pain. The empty spaces weren’t mistakes; they were room to breathe.
As the design grew, so did I.
I saw a version of myself emerging between the colors—one who wasn’t afraid of contrast, who understood that beauty isn’t found in perfection but in tension. This version welcomed chaos as a collaborator. She trusted her instincts. She let the line wander, even when it didn’t make sense yet.
The final piece didn’t look like what I imagined when I began. It was better. It was honest.
And when I stepped back, I understood: the art wasn’t just something I created—it was something that created me. The color lines had drawn out a self I never knew existed, one brave enough to cross boundaries, bold enough to take up space, and wise enough to know that becoming is a lifelong design.
Sometimes all it takes is one line—one unexpected stroke—to discover who you’ve been becoming all along.
So if you’re standing at the edge of your own blank canvas, unsure where to begin, start where you are. Lean into your life exactly as it is—unfinished, imperfect, alive. Follow the lines that feel uncertain, especially the ones shaped by loss, struggle, and change. Don’t rush to make sense of them. Let them cross. Let them clash. Let them teach you. Purpose is rarely revealed in comfort; it’s uncovered in the willingness to keep showing up through hardship, trusting that every detour is shaping something meaningful. Your true purpose isn’t waiting at the end—it’s being drawn with every brave step you take forward.
